👩🌾 My Story with Plants
It all started in my father’s garden.
When I was a child, my father spent hours caring for his plants. I would follow him, help him turn the soil, and watch his hands as he planted and watered. There, between the pothos pot and the calathea leaves, my passion was born — not just as a hobby, but as a language between him and me.
I grew up. The passion grew with me.

🎓 My Training & Credentials
I didn’t stop at what I learned in the garden. I needed to understand the why — why one plant wilts while another thrives, why some leaves yellow despite proper watering, why certain plants refuse to grow indoors.
That curiosity led me through three layers of education:
Formal Academic Training
- Completed foundational studies in plant science at Portland Community College, with a focus on indoor plant care and horticultural fundamentals.
- Completed an intensive, accredited training program at the International Japanese Garden Training Center — where I developed deep expertise in plant physiology, soil science, and environmental adaptation
Structured Self-Education
- Completed multiple advanced courses in tropical and subtropical houseplant care
- Studied under recognized plant educators and horticulturists through verified learning platforms
- Conducted ongoing research using peer-reviewed studies from university horticulture departments
Hands-On Field Experience
- 10+ years of direct, daily care of houseplants across dozens of species
- Currently maintaining 100+ individual plants in my home — including rare aroids, tropical species, and notoriously difficult varieties
- Personally diagnosed and treated hundreds of plant cases through Reddit, Facebook, and direct reader consultations
“This isn’t a site written by someone who reads about plants. This is a site written by someone who has lived with them — through failures, losses, and hard-won successes.”
🌿 My Areas of Specialization
Over 10 years, my expertise has concentrated in specific areas:
- Tropical Houseplants — Monsteras, Pothos, Philodendrons, and rare Aroids
- Calatheas & Prayer Plants — among the most demanding indoor species
- Low-Light Indoor Plants — helping plants survive and thrive in challenging conditions
- Plant Disease Diagnosis — identifying root rot, fungal infections, pest infestations, and nutrient deficiencies
- Indoor Climate Adaptation — helping plants adjust to dry air, inconsistent temperatures, and artificial lighting
🤝 Why I Created Your Indoor Plant
I never planned to become a plant content writer.
It started with neighbors. They would bring me their sick, wilting, nearly dead plants. I’d take them, research the root cause, and return them thriving weeks later. Word spread — and soon I was answering questions on forums and Facebook groups every single day.
Strangers messaged me: “My plant is dying — what do I do?” The requests grew beyond what I could handle personally.
That’s when I made the decision: document everything in one place, so anyone with a struggling plant can find a real answer — not a generic tip, but the kind of advice that comes from someone who has made every mistake, lost plants, and learned from each one.
Your Indoor Plant was born in 2025.
Since then, this site has grown into a trusted resource for plant owners at every level — from first-time buyers to serious collectors.
✍️ How I Write — My Editorial Process
Every article on this site follows a strict process before it reaches you:
1. Personal Experience First I only write about plants I have raised or currently care for. My observations come before my keyboard.
2. Scientific Verification Every claim is cross-referenced against published horticultural research, university extension programs, and trusted botanical sources. What I write is a blend of lived experience and verified science.
3. Transparent About Failures If I’ve failed with a plant, I tell you. If I disagree with commonly repeated advice, I explain exactly why. This site is built on honesty — not the illusion of perfection.
4. Regular Updates Every article is reviewed at minimum once per year, or immediately when new research or updated guidance becomes available. You’ll always find the publication and last-updated date on each article.
